A self-styled prophet raped a 45-year-old woman at her home after offering her transportation and false prophecies.
After realizing she had been duped, the woman reported the incident to police on Tuesday.
The victim has since been referred to the Edith Clinic for further medical evaluation.
Assistant Inspector Webster Dzvova, a spokesperson for the Harare Provincial Police, confirmed the incident.
“Police are investigating a case involving a Hatfield woman who was raped on March 20, 2022, at around 12pm by a man only identified as TK,” Asst Insp Dzvova said.
“The complainant was walking down Nirvana Road in Hatfield when she was approached by the accused, who was driving an unidentified white motor vehicle.”
“Because they were going in the same direction, the accused person offered the complainant a lift, and she agreed.”
“Along the way, the accused pretended to be a prophet and persuaded the complainant to accompany him to her home so that he could perform some rituals.”
“When the two arrived at the complainant’s house, the accused asked the complainant to spread a white cloth and requested coarse salt and a cup of water.”
“Using the water, the accused person began to pray by making cross signs on the complainant’s legs and hands.”
“The accused asked the complainant to take off her pants and urinate in the bucket, and she did so.”
According to Asst Insp Dzvova, “the accused caressed the complainant and raped her once without protection.”
He claimed that a number of people were being raped or robbed as a result of these false prophets.
