Organizers of Headies have sworn to disqualify Headies-nominated singer Portable for threatening to eliminate his co-nominees.
On Thursday, after when the Headies had announced nominees for its 15th edition to the public, a video of Portable, who is nominated in two categories, threatening to kill any co-nominees that win surfaced on social media, saying that the awards were his.
Before making that video, he had made a post on Twitter that there would be havoc in the country if he didn’t emerge winner. Read it here
The video, which went viral immediately, made its way to organizers of the award, who have taken security measures since then.
On Friday, they announced on their TV, Hiptv, that they would not hesitate to remove Portable’s name from the lists of nominees if he didn’t reverse his statement, take down the video, and apologize to the organization and to his co-nominees.
They added too that police had been informed of the issue.
Their statement read:
‘We have notified the Nigerian police of Mr. Okokiola’s actions to fellow nominees. Also, demand for the immediate retraction of the video as well as a written apology to nominees in both categories and to The Headies has been made.
Should Mr. Okikiola fail to meet our demands, we will not only disqualify him from participating in The Headies but also enforce the instrumentality of the law.

The general public are hereby implored to disregard the video and stop the dissemination of same in the public space’.
Portable is nominated for both ‘Rookie of the Year’ and ‘Best Street-Hop Artiste’. His co-nominees in the first category are Av, Fave, Magixx, and Ugoccie.
Bella Shmurda, Mohbad, Naira Marley, and Goya Menor are among his co-nominees in the Best Street-Hop Artiste’s category.
